Anthropologists Work in Increasingly Different Areas

Anthropology as a career has received more attention in the last few months. CNN Financial is doing a series on job prospects for graduates of different degree programs ("Working Your Degree: . . ."). They recently summarized the prospects for anthropology majors. Perhaps the primary conclusion is that anthropologists end up in a wide variety of jobs and no one area predominates although almost half eventually go on to get a graduate or professional degree. The article in the Christian Science Monitor focuses on anthropologists with graduate degrees who work in applied fields. The unique perspective that anthropologists have in looking at holistically is proving useful in designing new products and software. The articles in Kiplinger's and New Scientist illustrate anthropology applied to contemporary society in consumer behavior and internet surfing.
