Kansas Teaches Evolution

Genetic research continues to support the hypothesis that modern humans evolved in Africa and migrated to Asia and Europe, replacing existing populations. The latest research on 53 people from various ethnic groups examined the complete sequence of mitochondrial genes, containing a total of 16,500 base pairs. Earlier studies examined only segments of the mitochondrial DNA. The current study suggests a common ancestor only 52,000 years ago, which may provide a rough date for the migration out of Africa. A separate analysis of the Y-chromosomes of 1007 men in Europe and the Middle East concluded that 95 percent of European men are descended from 10 ancestors who migrated to Europe during three separate migrations.
