Kansas Teaches Evolution

Two years ago the Kansas State Board of Education generated international publicity when it voted to remove the theory of evolution as the sole explanation of the origin of man from the state's public school curriculum. Last month the board reversed that decision by approving state science standards that mandate that evolution be taught in public schools throughout the state.  The recent vote was the result of a Republican primary election held last August when three conservative members of the school board were defeated for re-election by candidates who promised to reverse the decision.
