English Cannibals!

Archaeological evidence of cannibalism often difficult to identify conclusively although our knowledge of taphonomy (the various processes that affect bodies after death) is much greater than it was 25 years ago.  Archaeologists are currently excavating a grave pit in Gloucestershire that contains around 40 bodies. Radiocarbon dates on three bones range from 30 BC to AD 130.  The grave pit seems to represent a sacrificial ritual to the Celtic dog god of the underworld.  One of the bones, a femur, shows clear evidence of having been split and the marrow scraped out.
