Britt Andreatta
Britt Andreatta, Ph.D. is currently the Director
of First Year Programs & Leadership Education at the University of
California, Santa Barbara. Dr. Andreatta coordinates and teaches UCSB’s
freshmen experience course; coordinates programming and mentoring efforts
for freshmen students; coordinates programming for parents of freshmen
during summer orientation; and teaches “University and Society"
as well as “Introduction to Leadership." She provides training
on the first year experience (for both freshmen and transfer students)
to students, staff, and faculty both at UCSB and at other institutions.
In 2003, Dr. Andreatta won the award for Outstanding Experienced Professional
by the American College Personnel Association (ACPA).

John A. Beck was distinguished as a semifinalist

John N. Gardner is a visionary educator, author, speaker, and
change agent. Founder of the acclaimed National Resource Center for The
First-Year Experience and Students in Transition at the University of
South Carolina (USC), he also served as the faculty director of USC’s
first-year seminar from 1974 to 1999. Gardner conducts First-Year Experience
seminars and teleconferences throughout the world, supporting college
faculty and staff in developing effective first-year seminar courses and
retention programs. In 1999, he established the Policy Center on the First
