Used in both developmental and freshman composition classes, The Writer's Resources
CD-ROM Version 2.0 is an interactive multimedia program that teaches all aspects of grammar and writing.
FEATURES
- It's a Complete Writing Course. Writer's Resources CD-ROM covers all the skills necessary for students to become effective writers, presented in four sections...
- REVISED Tools: Covers 19 basic grammar, punctuation, and mechanics problem areas and allows students to concentrate on one grammar rule at a time. Each lesson begins with a statement of the rule and keywords can be clicked on for more detailed information. Examples show students how the rule applies to writing and practice sessions, giving detailed feedback for all student responses.
- Writing Elements: Discusses the building blocks of college writing, showing students how to choose effective words, write strong sentences, develop detailed paragraphs, and compose essays. Student models illustrate the topics presented.
 Writing Process: Covers all the stages of the writing process, from brainstorming and pre-writing to final draft preparation. A series of prompts directs students as they take all the necessary steps to produce successful paragraphs and essays.- Rhetorical Patterns: Discusses the eight traditional organizational patterns as well as how to write a summary, analysis, and the argumentative essay. For each of the patterns, students have access to step-by-step instructions on how to organize a piece of writing using that pattern, how to write a thesis, how to use appropriate transitions, and how to avoid common pitfalls.
- More Than 4,500 Activities and Exercises provide ample opportunity for students to practice the concepts presented. A broad range of auto-graded exercises and open-ended activities for instructors to review and assess are included. Several new types of exercises have been added to Version 2.0, including matching, identifying items in lists, and writing assignments.
- Audio and Animation: Audio clips (all re-recorded
for Version 2.0) throughout reinforce and expand upon concepts presented.
Animation clips, many of which have been added, demonstrate certain procedures,
such as various steps in the writing process or how to complete activities.
- Invention Software: Launching the computer's word-processing application, Writer's Resources CD-ROM Version 2.0 opens over 100 customized writing templates that guide students through writing exercises in sentence, paragraph, and essay creation.
- A New Course Management Option: Version 2.0 is now tied directly to three course management systems, allowing instructors the full benefits of class management such as quizzing and testing tools as well as a gradebook reporting function. Instructors can choose to have their students' progress reported to their WebCT™ course, or to Wadsworth's proprietary course management system (BCA), hosted and maintained at no additional cost by Wadsworth. Blackboard® cartridges may also be used in conjunction with the BCA course management system. Instructors have the option of using the CD-ROM independent of the course management feature.
- Searchable Index: A searchable index has been added, both enhancing the CD-ROM as a reference tool and improving its ease of use.
