Matching Learning Goals and Learning Theory Do you have three checks for each learning theory? Now check and make sure that you matched the goal with the learning theory that would provide the most appropriate instructional approach. Behaviorist theory is best applied to goals 1, 5, and 8. Cognitive theory is best applied to goals 3, 4, and 6. Constructivist theory best matches goals 2, 7, and 9. If you had any difficulty matching the goal and the learning theory, go back over the chapter, discuss your responses with a peer, or read some additional information about learning theories.
	Behavioral Cognitive Constructivist The first grade students will learn the beginning consonant sound "B". High school students will work with businessmen in the community to learn business-based technology applications. The fifth grade students will graphically relate concepts about the American Revolutionary War. Students will use strategies to improve reading comprehension such as predicting outcomes, self-questioning, and summarizing. When the bell rings, middle school students will be seated and working on their warm up exercises. Preservice teachers will develop advanced organizers for a science unit they will teach to secondary students. The junior English students will design a children’s book and share it with nursery school students at the local head start program. Physical education students will be able to jog a mile in less than fifteen minutes. Second grade students will be able to edit their own stories for publication in the class anthology after working with a fourth grade writing partner.
