Chapter 2: Overview of the Reader-Centered Communication: Obtaining a Job
Extra Exercise Online 2.1

The goal of this exercise is to help you learn how to apply Chapter 2's reader-centered advice for creating effective résumés.

The Exercise

In this exercise, you will examine two drafts of the résumé prepared by Roberta Fitzgerald.

First, read her initial draft (Résumé #1), which is at the bottom of this page. Referring to the information presented in Chapter 2, create a list of improvements she might make.

Second, compare your list of revisions to the revisions that Roberta made in order to create her second draft (Résumé #2). What changes did you recommend that she didn't make. What changes did she make that you didn't consider? Could the second draft be improved? If so, how?

While working on this exercise, you may download the Revision Checklist for Résumés.
