Chapter 17: Creating and Delivering Listener-Centered Oral Presentations
Extra Exercise Online 17.1

The goal of this exercise is to give you experience preparing a storyboard for an oral presentation.

The Exercise

Review, in Chapter 17, the discussion of using storyboards to help you plan the verbal and visual dimensions of an oral presentation. Use this information to create a storyboard for an oral presentation. This presentation should be five to seven minutes long. During this presentation, you should introduce yourself, tell your listeners what your major is, and briefly explain what you would like to do with your degree when you graduate. You can assume that your audience is a group of incoming freshmen who are uncertain what they want their majors to be as they begin their academic careers.

The Planning Guide for Creating and Delivering Oral Presentations can be downloaded and/or printed for use with this exercise. You might find it helpful in organizing your thoughts and ensuring that you follow the guidelines in Chapter 17.
