The Crusades

The Crusades were part a continuation of the centuries-old practice of pilgrimage, and also part military campaign to free the Christian Holy Land from non-Christians, and perhaps plunder and gain some booty along the way. The journeys of Christian warriors from Europe to the eastern Mediterranean began near the end of the eleventh century and lasted through the thirteenth century. What motivated the Crusaders? What did they accomplish? Who were some of the better-known Crusaders?
