"Lincoln's 150,000 Negro Soldiers," 1863

From the Valley Spirit (Chambersbug, Pa.), February 17, 1863

Slavery being the proper condition of the African race, it may be that Providence is now using the madness of the abolitionists to return to slavery the "American citizens of African descent," as Lincoln denominates them, who are now denizens of the North, for

"God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform."

Lincoln, with a million of men, now calls for the assistance of 150,000 Ethiopians. As he cannot get them in the South, he will have to recruit them in the North, and so soon as they come within reach of the Southern army they will be captured, and be restored to the condition for which Providence designed them. Zerah, with 300 chariots and 1,600,000 of Ethiopians came out in war against Asa who had only five hundred and eighty thousand "mighty men of valor," and yet Asa, praying for and relying upon the assistance of the God of hosts, conquered and made slaves of the whole Ethiopian army. Sec II Chronicles, 14th chapter.
