zapping: Process in which viewers rapidly switch from TV program to TV program with a remote control. Also called channel surfing.
zoot suits: Flamboyant outfits that featured oversized trousers; commonly worn by young Mexican American men. Became the symbol of rebellion for some Hispanics. The Los Angeles City Council tried to make it a crime to wear a zoot suit.
