Visit the Web site "Political Advocacy Groups" at

and click on the "Civil Rights" category.
1. First find a group with which you do not agree. What are their main policy positions? Why do you disagree with them?
2. Now select a group with which you share common ground. What are its main policy positions? Which of these do you support, and why?
3. In what ways does this group seek to influence public policy and public opinion?
4. What is required to join this group?
5. What benefits would this group provide you if you joined it?
6. In what ways could you help this group achieve its goals?
