Participation Activity 2

Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, federal and state governments have passed laws that curtail constitutional rights and liberties. First you must assess the nature and degree of the terrorist threat. Then you must decide what the government should do about it. Do your proposals include decreasing rights and liberties as a trade-off for potential increased security? Or do you think that rights and liberties should not be infringed, that they are too important?

If you take the latter approach, visit http://www.aclu.org.

1. What is the ACLU doing to protect the freedoms of Americans?

2. What can you do to help the ACLU?
