Getting Involved: Ideologies

Participation Activity 1 :: Participation Activity 2

Participation Activity 1

Political parties in the United States are much less ideological than their counterparts in Europe and other parts of the world. However, ideology does matter. Your ideology will likely change somewhat as you grow older, experience more things, and gain more information.

Go to:

World’s Smallest Political Quiz
http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html

Answer the questions carefully and truthfully, and then submit the quiz to determine your ideology.

1. In what category are you? Is this surprising, or does it sound about right?

2. If you accept the results of this quiz, in which political party should you belong? Do you have any actual interest in participating in activities of this party, such as election campaigns?

3. Of the various ideological categories, which claims the largest percentage of quiz takers? Do you think these percentages are representative of the entire American public, or just the people who take the quiz? Go to the home page (http://www.self-gov.org) for insight on who would be likely to take the quiz.

Now go to:
Party Match
http://issues2002.org/partyMatch/start.asp

This is another on-line ideology quiz with more questions than the quiz above.

4. What party most closely matches your ideology? Click on the relevant links to see details of the party positions.

5. How do the results of this quiz correlate with the first quiz you took? How can you explain any discrepancies?
