Usenet groups frequently feature discussions of issues involving the federal bureaucracy. Visit alt.politics.usa.congress and alt.current-events.usa to find these discussions. Most ISPs carry Usenet newsgroups. You can also access them through
http://www.google.com
.
Comb through the various threads and posts until you find a bureaucracy issue on a specific newsgroup that interests you. Read all the relevant posts to ensure you know what has already been said.
1. What is the specific issue of interest? List some of the important viewpoints already presented in the newsgroup.
2. Research the main facts of this issue on the Internet and the library. What are they?
3. Now that you are well informed, what is your opinion of how this issue should be dealt with? What actions should the government and the populace take?
4. Compose and send a post to the newsgroup with your opinion. Be sure you support your opinion well, and proofread your post for clarity, spelling, and grammar.
5. Follow the newsgroup for several days after your post. Were there any responses to your post? What were they? Did you learn from them? If so, what?
