Participation Activity 2

The Usenet group alt.politics.economics allows anyone with Internet access to sound off on economic policy. Your ISP probably provides newsgroups. If not, go to http://www.google.com.

1. What are the most important economic policies being discussed here?

2. How many of the posts or threads are overtly political? Why do you think this is so?

3. Peruse recent postings and choose one policy or proposed policy that really grabs your attention. What is it, and what are the differing views on it?

4. Write and post your own message on this topic. Research the topic thoroughly in the library and on the Internet to ensure you know what you are talking about. Before sending your message, proofread it carefully for clarity, spelling, and grammar.

5. Follow the newsgroup for two or three days and monitor replies to your post. How did people respond to your post? What was the quality of those responses?
