Geography question:

As you observe the location of Nigeria on the African continent, speculate about why it’s Africa’s most populous nation state and about the diversity of its population.

Now, put those speculations on paper in the form of two hypotheses (one for each speculation) and the reasoning upon which the hypotheses are built.

Demographics question:

Observe the statistics about the percentage of the population below the poverty line and the percentage of "household income or consumption" by the poorest 10% of the population.

Write a brief essay speculating on the meaning of those statistics for Nigeria’s political elite and for the prospects for democracy in Nigeria.

Comparison question:

Observe how the Nigerian population’s age structure (i.e. the percentage of the population in each age group) compares to the US age structure.

Write a description of that comparison and make at least one hypothesis about how the differences in ages structures are related to differences in political culture in the two countries. Explain the reasoning you used to create the that hypothesis.
