Now, put those speculations on paper in the form of two hypotheses (one for each speculation) and the reasoning upon which the hypotheses are built. Demographics question: Observe the statistics about the percentage of the population below the poverty line and the percentage of "household income or consumption" by the poorest 10% of the population. Write a brief essay speculating on the meaning of those statistics for Nigeria’s political elite and for the prospects for democracy in Nigeria. Comparison question: Observe how the Nigerian population’s age structure (i.e. the percentage of the population in each age group) compares to the US age structure. Write a description of that comparison and make at least one hypothesis about how the differences in ages structures are related to differences in political culture in the two countries.
