Geography question:
As you look at the map of Saudi Arabia in Asia, what features do you think help explain why the Arabs have had difficulty creating and maintaining political unity for at least the past 1500 years? Explain the reasoning behind your analysis.
Demographics question:
Note the population growth rate and the "Total fertility rate" for Saudi Arabia. What do those data suggest about public policies in the country now? What do they suggest about likely public policy initiatives in the next twenty years? Why do you think so?
Comparison question:
Stereotypes of Saudi Arabians held by people in the USA are fostered by well-publicized travels by Saudi elites. How does the GDP per capita of Saudi Arabia compare to that of the USA? What does that difference suggest about the reality of the Saudi standard of living? Taken together with the population growth rate, what do these data suggest about the future stability of the monarchy? Why?
