Egypt and the Middle East

Egypt has been a leader in North Africa and the Middle East since the days of Nasser's leadership. As the most populous Arab state, and one of only two other states to have official relations with Israel (the other is Jordan) Egypt has substantial influence. What have been important aspects of Egypt's foreign policy in the Middle East? What are Egypt's overall goals? What are Egypt's current views on Israel's behavior? The situation in Iraq? The war on terrorism?
