The Vietnam War
The American
Experience: Vietnam
1. Read the "Introduction." How many Americans died in the Vietnam War?
What was the total cost of the war for the United States?
2. Go through the time line. Pick out ten events that you think were important and
write a sentence or two about each explaining why that event was important.
3. Visit the "Who’s Who" section. Pick ten people and write a two-sentence
summary of each person’s relationship to the Vietnam War or its wider implications.
Make Pol Pot and Ho Chi Minh two of your selections.
4. Go to "In the Trenches" and read about the My Lai massacre. How did the
knowledge of the massacre by the American public affect the war?
5. Go to the "Reflections on a War" section. Pick five people and write
about their experiences with the war and how the conflict affected them.
