Research Team
Our research team had statistical problems caused by a failure to look at the data before testing their hypothesis. The DV was created by calculating the percentage of trials in which the participant agreed with the group. Their statistical test revealed that this percentage was no greater than what was expected by chance. Closer inspection of the data showed that they had not correctly entered the data on their spreadsheet and thus their percentages were incorrect. Descriptive analysis before testing their hypothesis would have revealed their mistake.
