- Surveys are useful when we want to study inner states such as attitudes, beliefs, and feelings.
- Three types of questions are used in survey research: close-ended, partially closed, and open-ended.
- Survey items should be carefully constructed to be clear, without bias, reflect single issues, and capture the full range of response.
- We collect data face to face, over the telephone, using the computer, and asking for written responses. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.
- Careful sampling results in representative samples. Probability sampling strategies are best. Avoid haphazard samples.
