In factorial ANOVA, we test hypotheses about main effects and interaction effects. In order to test these hypotheses, we need to calculate a series of sums of squares that are the foundation of our variance estimates. These sums of squares are listed below. We also estimate a "correction factor" that serves as an estimate of the grand mean in many of our calculations.
