Scatter Plot Exercise

In this exercise, you will generate five scatter plots that show different
types of relationships between two variables:

  1. perfect positive correlation
  2. perfect negative correlation
  3. zero correlation
  4. positive correlation (small-moderate)
  5. negative correlation (small-moderate).

Each scatter plot will show a different direction (positive/negative) or strength of relationship (zero/small-moderate/perfect).

To generate each plot, you make up and type in data for the X variable (predictor) and then the Y variable (dependent).  As you type in the values for X and Y, they will appear on the scatter plot.  Click on the "Draw Regression Line" button and the regression line will appear on the scatter plot.

To generate each additional scatter plot, just click on the "Clear Regression Line" button and type in new values for X and Y.

To help you make up appropriate values for X and Y, name the variables.  For example, hours and sleep and seconds to run the 100 yard dash would be negatively correlated.
