Why Do We Reject the Null?

We do our study in order to reject the null hypothesis--this seems odd. Doesn't it make more sense to test whether our research hypothesis is true? On the surface, it may seem easier, but it is easier to prove an idea to be false that it is to prove an idea to be true. Think about it for a minute. Why do you think that is true?
