Sample size also has a direct effect on statistical power. The central limit theorem tells us that, when we increase the size of our sample, the sampling distribution of the mean becomes more leptokurtic. This property applies to all sampling distributions. Larger samples give a more accurate estimate of the population parameter. Therefore, the standard error (standard deviation of the sampling distribution) decreases. Let's see what happens when we increase our sample size. We will keep μ for each population the same.
