Sacred Sites of Taoism

(1) Home of Lau Tsu--according to tradition, home of Lao Tsu in the ancient state of Chu; (2) revelation of Tao Te Ching at Chung-nan Shan (mountain)--popular tradition claims Chung-nan Shan as the site of the revelation of the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tsu to the gatekeeper Yin Hsi; (3) founding of the Celestial Masters--the site of the origin of the Celestial Masters movement in the second century C.E.; (4) Mao shan--Taoist pilgrimage site and area where the Mao Shan revelations were received and written in the fourth century C.E.; (5) Long-hu Shan (Dragon and Tiger Mountain)--Taoist pilgrimage; holy mountain and center for the Celestial Masters and Chen-i sects; (6) Ch'ingchen Shan in Chengdu--Taoist pilgrimage site; location of temples and monastery of the Ch'uan-chen order.
