General Social Survey
Self-Assessment Activity

The GSS (General Social Survey) is an almost annual, personal interview survey of U.S. households conducted by the National Opinion Research Center (NORC). The first survey took place in 1972 and since then more than 38,000 respondents have answered over 3,260 different questions.

In the activity to follow, answer some Marriage and Family-related GSS questions for yourself and then compare your views with the results of the GSS.

Source: The GSS data for these Activities were obtained through the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR). Faculty and staff at universities with a membership to ICPSR can download GSS data and codebook information for all years from 1972-2000 (http://www.icpsr.umich.edu then click on GSS Site).
